Real Flower Jewellery for Haldi or Artificial: Which Should You Choose?

Aditya Kumar•October 24, 2026

Real flower jewellery for haldi or an artificial set? How long fresh flowers last, what artificial sets are made of, and which suits your haldi day.

Real flower jewellery for haldi looks and smells natural, but it lasts only hours and must be kept cool until you wear it. Artificial sets of beads, shell, resin or artificial flowers look the same all day. Choose real flowers for a short ceremony close to home, and artificial for a long day, travel or two functions.

This guide is for a bride, or her family, deciding between fresh flowers and a set that lasts. It explains how each behaves over a haldi morning and which suits which kind of day. All 90 sets in our shop are made from lasting materials: none of their descriptions lists fresh flowers. For choosing the pieces themselves, read our guide on how to choose haldi jewellery. If you are choosing for the bride herself, see our guide to haldi jewellery for bride.

What real flower jewellery for haldi is like on the day

Real flower jewellery is made from fresh blooms, usually close to the ceremony, because the flowers start to wilt once they are cut. It has two things an artificial set cannot match: the scent of the flowers and the soft, slightly uneven look of real petals.

The cost is time. Our home page says fresh flower jewellery typically lasts for several hours when kept cool and away from direct sunlight, and that it should be refrigerated in suitable packaging until shortly before the event. A haldi is often held outdoors or in a warm room, and the pieces are handled, hugged and splashed with turmeric paste, so the flowers look their best at the start of the morning.

That makes fresh flowers a good fit when:

  • the ceremony is short and at home or nearby;
  • someone can collect the jewellery on the day and keep it cool;
  • you want the scent and do not mind the set being finished afterwards.

What artificial haldi jewellery is made of

"Artificial" covers more than artificial flowers. Across the 90 descriptions in our shop, 87 mention beads, 31 shell or cowrie, 29 resin and 8 sequins. Three describe the set itself as artificial.

  • Artificial flowers. The Bridal Bliss set, pictured at the top, is made with artificial flowers: pink roses framed by small white flowers, with white shell-shaped drops below the choker and earrings. From a short distance it reads as a floral set, which is the closest look to fresh flowers.
  • Beads and pearls. The multicolour floral set, pictured in this section, is described as artificial bridal jewellery made with beads and pearls. Yellow, red, pink and green roses are packed close together, with layered pearl drops under the choker.
  • Shell. The White Shell set is made with shell: white cowrie shells in round cream beadwork. It does not imitate flowers at all, but it gives the same light, natural feel.

Resin and acrylic sets sit between these, with glossy floral shapes that keep their colour.

Real or artificial: how they compare

The two differ most on the things that matter over a long morning.

  • How long it lasts. Fresh flowers last for hours, by our home page's account. An artificial set looks the same in the last photograph as in the first.
  • Scent and feel. Only fresh flowers have a scent. Artificial sets have a firmer, more even shape.
  • Colour. Fresh flowers come in the colours of the season's blooms. Artificial sets come in colours chosen for the set, such as the blue and lavender sets in our range.
  • Turmeric. Both get turmeric on them. Fresh flowers are finished after the day anyway. Artificial sets can be wiped: our descriptions give care steps such as a soft cloth, and keeping the set away from water and perfume.
  • After the haldi. Our home page says artificial and preserved options can be reused for multiple occasions. Fresh flowers cannot.
  • Planning. Fresh flowers need someone to collect and keep them cool on the day. An artificial set can arrive days before and wait in its box.

Neither is better in every way. The choice depends on the kind of day you are planning.

Which to choose for your haldi

Start from the shape of the day, not from the jewellery.

  • A short haldi at home. Fresh flowers are at their best here, if someone can bring them on the morning and keep them cool until you wear them.
  • A long or outdoor haldi. Choose an artificial set. Heat and hours of wear are hard on cut flowers, and you will want the jewellery to look the same in the late photographs.
  • Haldi and mehndi on the same day, or on consecutive days. Choose an artificial set, so one set can cover both. Many of our sets are described for haldi and mehndi together, and their pages advise putting the haathphool on only after your mehndi has dried.
  • A destination wedding or travel. Choose an artificial set, packed in its box, so nothing depends on finding flowers locally.
  • You want both. Wear an artificial set for the jewellery, and add fresh flowers in your hair, where they are easy to replace.

Whichever you choose, order early. Our home page recommends ordering at least 5 to 7 days before the haldi.

What to check before you order

  1. The photographs. Look at every image, so you see the flowers close up and on the model.
  2. The title and description. The description names the materials, such as artificial flowers, beads, shell or resin. Trust it over the title.
  3. Your own outfit. Hold the set against the real fabric in daylight.
  4. The pieces included. Check for a maang tikka and haathphool, and whether there are one or two.

Final thoughts

Real flowers are for a short, close-to-home haldi where scent matters most. For a long day, travel or two functions, an artificial set does the same job and keeps its look until the last photograph.

Quick checklist

  • Decide how long the ceremony will run.
  • Choose fresh flowers only if someone can keep them cool.
  • Choose artificial for haldi and mehndi together.
  • Read the description for the materials.
  • Order at least 5 to 7 days ahead.
